SPACE WEATHER

striped bar

The source is the Sun,
Quiescent and active,
Features appearing and changing
In minutes to years.

Internal forces erupting and driving
The solar dynamo.
Light and heat to stir life on Earth;
A solar wind to caress the planets.

Huge explosions driving forth
Great clouds of plasma,
Travelling the vast expanse of space,
Creating aurora and magnetic storms.

Huge flares: light, X-rays,
And bursts of radio energy;
A thunderous crashing of static,
Disrupting communications and navigation.

Relativistic radiation,
Energetic and deadly,
Pursuing paths to prescribe
Our tentative forays into the final frontier.
