Optus owns and operates the Australian geosynchronous communications satellite network. This provides essential communications and television to sites all over Australia.
The Canberra Deep Space Communications Complex at Tidbinbilla is one of three NASA Deep Space Network (DSN) sites for tracking interplanetary spacecraft missions. The other two are located in Spain and in California. The CDSCC is located in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) about 35 km south-west of Canberra, and hosts an excellent visitor's centre. It is the only site in Australia where you can see a piece of moon rock retrieved by Apollo astronauts.
