An solar eclipse will be visible in Australia, mostly as a partial eclipse. However, the path of totality will cross northern Australia, 250 km east of Darwin (13/20:35 UT) and then move over the Gulf of Carpentaria and cross the Cape York peninsula near Cairns (around 13/20:38 UT). This will be an early morning event. For more details see Eclipses@NASA. |

It is expected that Comet ISON will become very bright this month as it passes perihelion. It may be visible during daylight hours and some predictions have it as bright as the full moon. However, comet brightness predictions are notoriously unreliable, particularly for comets making their first pass into the inner solar system. |
